Recently, I had a get together with some of my close friends. After chatting for quite some time, somehow the topic changed to penises and vaginas.

I was quite shocked how critical my friends were about different penises and vaginas. Foreskin, was mentioned and they both were weirded out by the idea of their being excess skin. One of my friends said it was even gross.

I tried to explain to them that all men have it when they're born, it's natural and is there for a reason, but they were still against the idea of foreskin. They didn't comprehend it's function or how it can benefit women.

My other friend stated that it resembled a turtle neck, and the head of the penis is hiding. Once again I informed them that once a man is fully erect an uncircumcised penis can look exactly like a circumcised penis ( depending on how much foreskin the man has). But they were just not having any of it, and even suggested that circumcision should be manadatory. In my opinion, that's like saying every woman's clitoral hood should be cut!

After that failed attempt to open their minds, and them making faces to an impression of pulling foreskin X_X the topic changed to vaginas. One of my friends found it odd that some women's lips were different colors and were different sizes. I thought that was strange, coming from here since she has two different breast sizes. I pointed that fact out too, but she just brushed it aside like a difference in size was only possible for breast and not your vagina.

Has anyone else had a discussion with their friends about sex or anything related to sex? Was their a lot of conflict or was everyone on the same page?

I don't talk with many friends about sex, to be honest. But if I did, I wouldn't be surprised if I heard a lot of the same things that you did, Eva. I do work in women's health with a lot of generally progressive folks, so we can have general conversations about things like how ridiculous labiaplasty is but we don't really talk about personal experiences. It makes me sad to hear that women are so harsh about the natural spectrum of sex organs--little labia, big labia, dark or uneven labia, or uncircumcised penises. It isn't that surprising though. Our culture tends to emphasize one beauty ideal and to judge everything else that doesn't conform. How ridiculous! If this site proves anything, it's that beauty comes in many shapes and sizes and it's actually the natural variations that are most interesting rather than something surgically altered to conform to a standard of beauty that is arbitrarily imposed. I think the negative reactions are more due to fear and conditioning rather than people's genuine preferences for uncut vs. cut, etc. Just my 2 cents.

I had the same talk with some female co-workers about the penis and its natural extra skin and the women who were inexperienced said the same things as yours did. I had to break it down to them it's what they are taught as teens that defines how they feel as adults.

Well Eva I stopped talking about it after many discussions. I once had a model agency with hundreds of girls. So many think they are not a real woman when they didn't enlarge their brest size. Honestly. . .I don't talk about sex with my friends despite being the administrator of a site like this. :)

The reason being most of my friends are female, and sometimes I feel like it would come across odd if I got into a conversation with them about it -- in fact the one time I had a discussion with one of my female friends about the subject matter of this site (labia -- and she brought it up I might add), and it didn't go very well (much like your experience @Eva).

So now, I just leave things be. . .perhaps I should be more persistent, but being a guy, I suspect that may not come across well perceived in a lot of cases. LOL!

much like @LabiaLover a also don't talk about sex with my friends in great details or specifics like foreskin or labia size. We do talk about sex scenes in movies or some porn movie once in a while... that's about it. Once one of my newly married friend asked me a few questions regarding what to expect regarding tightness / looseness from a vagina, and i told him that depends on a lot of factors and he should not be concerned about it. This friend of mine knows that i am somewhat addicted to watching porn and comes to me about any questions he may have. In a very conservative society like ours it is very difficult to fine someone to talk to about sex without raising an eyebrow, and if someone goes as details as labia or foreskin people will think you are a pervert.

This is why Internet is such a great thing that people can open up without being judged and one can find people with similar mindset.
